Despite the African Union’s robust human rights framework, including the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights and the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa (Maputo Protocol), violations of women’s rights remain prevalent across the continent. This persistent gap between legal pronouncements and lived realities necessitates a critical evaluation of the effectiveness of the African human rights protection mechanisms in safeguarding women’s rights.
